| Other visitors were Marie Bowman,
(State Manager) and Paul Maher (Executive Officer) of Commonwealth Department
of Aged & Community Care; Sir Arvi Parbo, (Patron of the Redevelopment
Appeal), Barbara Haddon (Nursing Advisor, Strathdon Community Board
of Governance) and Les Withers (Secretary, Strathdon Community Boad
of Governance). The Commonwealth funding will be used to implement the “Strike a Balance” project, which focuses on older people at risk of falling, including people with Stroke and Dementia. This project will increase the frequency of Balance Group, and Stroke Maintenance Group from once weekly to twice weekly so that more clients can access these services. In addition, a “Golden Age Gymnasium” will be set up to improve the general fitness of older people in the community. Falls Prevention educational sessions will also be conducted on a regular basis to provide basic knowledge and increase the general awareness on falls. Within “Strike a Balance” project it is expected that older people living in the local community with varying physical abilities will improve their general strength, balance and falls prevention awareness. This Grant came at an opportune time with the planned expansion for the Day Therapy Centre, which is due for completion early 2003. |
