Beginnings
 

Strathdon Community, a not-for-profit Aged Care facility in Jolimont Road, Forest Hill, Victoria, began in 1968 through the generous donation of 2.7 acres of land from the Matheson family.

The aim of the agency, as expressed in Strathdon's mission statement, is “to provide quality residential and community care services to the aged within the values of a caring Christian community”.

The Synod of Victoria and Tasmania Standing Committee resolved that the Councils of Strathdon, Kalkee and Strathhaven be granted full delegation of governance responsibilities under a "Delegated Powers" model outlined in the Victorian Aged Care Steering Committee's report. Other agencies would be directly under the control of the Aged Care Board from 1 July 2004.

Strathdon awarded an additional 10 Community Aged Care Packages bringing the total to 70.

Mingara Day Activity Centre and Socialisation Groups awarded three years accreditation with a high standard rating, by HACC (Home and Community Care Program, Victorian Government Funded).

Third and final stage of the redevelopment project completed. This included the refurbishment of Nursing Home Central and the expanded Day Therapy Centre.

Stage 2 of the Redevelopment completed - demolition and rebuilding of the 60 bed Hostel, the new Community Centre, Services area and Administration block.

Day Therapy Centre receives a Commonwealth Government Grant of $167,000 over 3 years

Mr Baillieu Myer as Chairman of Trustees of 'The Sidney Myer Fund', with Sir Arvi Parbo, undertake the inquiry "2020 Vision: Aged Care in Australia". The Sidney Myer Fund' earmarked a $1 million grant for this independent review.

Support Fund Grant for Strathdon announced by Hon. Bronwyn Pike - $500,000.

The renaming of Hostel 15 as The Jack Faichney Memorial Hostel. Mr Faichney, who passed away May 6th 1994, served as Chairman on the Strathdon Council, from 1979 to 1993.

Demolition and rebuilding of Hostel 17 begins
