Hostel naming |

On the 1st February 2004, the
Hostel located at 19-23 Jolimont Road was offically named "Richard
E McGarvie Hostel". Speakers were Mr Richard McGarvie (a son of
the late Richard E McGarvie),Mr Geoff Grinton Chairperson Uniting Church
Presbytery of Maroondah, Mr John Brooks CEO Strathdon Community and
Rev Kerry Bounds. Afternoon tea was served in the Community Centre to
family, residents and prominent representatives from the legal profession
who were present at the offical naming ceremony. |

Richard Elgin McGarvie (1926-2003), AC, Former Victorian
governor and Supreme Court judge, . He is survived by Lesley, their
children Richard, Michael, Robyn, Ann, grandchildren and his brothers
Bruce, Graham and Neil.
