Those who braved
the weather on Sunday, November the 18th were treated to a rare opportunity,
a visit to Cruden Farm, the home of Dame Elisabeth Murdoch.
Cruden Farm, nestled snugly in Langwarrin, is renowned as one of Victoria’s
premier gardens and is opened to the public only on special occasions.
Sunday was one such occasion, a fundraising day for Strathdon Community,
which raised over $1,000.
The hardy gardeners who made the trip to Cruden Farm were able to
wander through the magnificent garden beds, hidden courtyards, stables
and Dame Elisabeth’s renowned Rose Garden. The scent from the roses
alone making the experience worthwhile.
A raffle of a beautiful Bette Tinsley Pastel ‘The Mill Bridge
at Smeaton’, donated to Strathdon by the artist, also drew keen
interest. Congratulations to Colin and Jackie King of Wheelers Hill,
the lucky raffle winners.
Strathdon Community would like to extend its thanks to Dame Elisabeth
for the kind use of her garden for this fundraising event and to Bette
Tinsley for the donation of her beautiful artwork. |
