The Socialisation Group is run by the Strathdon Community Day Therapy Centre.  Its aim is to provide social activities for people whose access to other community groups is limited due to age or disability.
Activity Program Aims
To provide social activities for people whose access to other community groups is limited due to age or disability regardless of culture, race, colour, religious beliefs and economic circumstances.
   
To offer a socialisation program that provides diverse leisure options in a relaxed and supportive setting.
   
To provide activities designed to promote independence and choices which will improve quality of life
   
To ensure that each individual is confident that they can:
  make a complaint at any time
  have an advocate of their choice to speak or act on their behalf
  expect that their rights will be respected
  have their privacy protected at all times.

Activity Program
  The Socialisation Groups provide an informal program of activities to meet the social and lifestyle needs of the participants.

The Monday program offers activities for men living in the community.
  Some of the activties in the program include:
 
Gardening Woodwork Scrabble Outings
Crafts Cooking Bowls Cards
Quizzes Jigsaws Films Sing-a-longs
Newspaper Discussion
Current Affairs / Sport etc.
       
   
Eligibility
  To be eligible for admission to the group, applicants must live within the City of Whitehorse, be independent with actvities and daily living, eg. eating, mobility and toileting.

Clients are assessed for suitability to participate in the groups' programs prior to admission.

Applicants who live outside the City of Whitehorse will be considered if no other appropriate group is available to them.

   
Hours of Operation
  Sessions run from 10.00 am to 2.00 p.m. on Mondays
There are no sessions on Public Holidays.
   
Fees
  Fees are charged according to income. Average fee charged - $10.00 per session.

This covers the cost of a light meal, craft materials and therapeutic treatments (no client is excluded from the program due to their inability to pay).
   
Transport
  Where possible, clients are asked to provide their own transport. Taxis will be arranged by agreement where there is no other form of transport available.
   
Meals
  Morning tea and a light lunch is provided.
   
Staff
  The Socialisation Program is managed by a Division 1 Registered Nurse, assisted by experienced staff and volunteers.
