Strathdon Day Therapy Centre conducts a special program for people living in the community who have long term disabilities resulting from stroke. The program is conducted by the Physiotherapist and Allied Health Assistant. Physiotherapist with a Client in the Day Therapy Centre
 
Aims and Objectives:
to improve mobility, balance and strength;
to minimize contractures of the affected limbs;
to maintain or improve independence in daily activites;
to monitor walking and the use of aids;
to promote a sense of well being;
to identify any risk of falling;
to implement fall prevention strategies.

Format

Two groups with a maximum of 6 clients in each group are conducted weekly on Friday morning and afternoon.

The program consists of ten sessions of circuit exercises and home hazard assessment.

Falls prevention education sessions will be conducted by the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Registered Nurse at the conclusion of the program.

10.00 to 10.30 am:

Who Can Attend?
  People who:
  have on-going problems resulting from stroke and have completed intensive rehabilitation;
  are referred to Strathdon Day Therapy Centre by their doctor, or may self refer after discussion with their doctor;
  are assessed by our therapist as being suitable to join the group;
  are able to transfer and walk 20 metres with walking aids.
   
Cost
  The cost is $8.00 per session.

It is expected that members of the group will attend all ten sessions, to gain a maximum effectiveness of staff and client's time.
