Water Tanks on Cherryl Street
Strathdon Community Welcomes Water Tanks

Strathdon Community is pleased to announce that two 18,000L tanks adjacent to Mingara Hostel, and two 45,000L water tanks near Cherryl Street have been installed in an effort to conserve water and save our gardens during severe drought.

This project was made possible by a federal grant for $50,000 as well as many generous donations to our water tanks appeal.

The Hon Chris Pearce, MP, congratulated Strathdon Community on receiving the grant and helping to save 500,000 litres of tap water each year.

"Strathdon is not alone in wanting to help save Melbourne's water, many other community groups and schools in the Outer East are committed to doing their best for the environment", said Mr Pearce.

Strathdon has also been very fortunate to have been chosen by Yarra Valley Water to receive regular monthly donations of water for the two larger 45,000L tanks. The donated water will be "flushing water", which is used for routine flushing, or to flush out a hydrant and pipes after a leak or burst main. Previously this water may have been lost down the drain, but instead it is collected for reusing on council land or helping community organisations. The donated water is "rough water" not suitable to drink, but perfect for use in the garden.

We are very grateful for the opportunity to conserve our most precious resource and thank everyone who has supported us.
